The guest speaker on the day was Dr. Gerry McCann who, among other things, is a senior lecturer in St. Mary’s University College, the Director of the Zambia-Northern Ireland Universities Initiative, a co-founder of the Centre for Global Education and a long-standing volunteer with the Morning Star Hostel for the homeless.
Pupils from the schools in attendance were recognised for the commitment to community outreach and their presentations included work with the homeless, other less privileged people, youth, senior citizens, those experiencing Special Educational Needs and cross-community relations. All of the schools are also involved with global projects but the awards concentrate on local endeavours.
Many thanks to the Principal and Staff of St. Mary’s CBGS for their organising of the event and their kind hospitality on the day.
On behalf of all participants we send our particular thanks to Mr Mark Watson, Dr. Aidan Donaldson and Ms. Clair McKillop.
