Abbey CBS beat St. Pa
trick’s, Maghera in a highly charged final in the Martin O’Farrell Cup at the Dub.
The annual schools’ Pre-Season GAA Football Tournament at Queens, organised in conjunction with the Ulster Colleges, was played out at the Dub in glorious sunshine. All teams competed in playoff games. Abbey beat last year’s winners, St. Michael’s Enniskillen, in an energetic semi-final, whilst in the other semi-final Maghera beat local rivals Magherafelt.
The tightly fought final saw Maghera lead 0-3 to 0-2 at half-time. On the re-start the Abbey’s Daniel McCarthy scored a well-placed goal that turned the game.
Final score: Abbey CBS, Newry 1-5, St. Patrick’s, Maghera 0-5.
